Scaling the Walls of Possibility
And, as a writer and courage coach for creatives I know the struggle for creative authenticity and expression AND survival.
“I dwell in possibility.” – Emily Dickinson
When I was a child, my friend Maryanne and I would play superheroes.
We had magical powers that could not only save us from everything, but we could save others.
We were, in all forms of the phrase, dwelling in possibility.
In fact, one day I was scaling a stone wall to the barn with a jump rope held on one end by Maryanne and a manure pit on the other side.
She let go or dropped her end of the rope.
I met the pit of manure.
I don’t actually recall being immersed in the thick pool of manure … only having to climb out of my poop-covered clothes on the farm house’s front porch and Maryanne having to dig into the manure to find my lost shoe with her bare hands.
We were always getting into trouble.
We were always dwelling in possibility.
When did I lose that?
When did I start letting reality have more weight than possibility?
These are the questions I work with all the time.
For myself, yes. Of course.
And, as a writer and courage coach for creatives I know the struggle for creative authenticity and expression AND survival.
I know that place of needing to pay the mortgage/rent and being almost willing to sleep under a bridge to do work we love.
My mission is to support creatives in their dreams to dwell in possibility and bring their visionary, artistic visions into the world.
It’s not easy to create what wasn’t there.
It’s not easy to stand alone.
It’s so easy to fall into the pit of doom sparked by practicality. The shit that holds us back. The pile of negative thoughts that stop us in our tracks from chasing the miraculous.
Let’s not do that.
Let’s not let a little setback of what could happen get in our way.
Not now.
Not while it’s getting to be too late.
Our bodies may not always be able to scale the walls of possibility.
Take your end of the rope and I’ll take mine.
And leap.
